Overview

Development is the most important facet of being a basketball player. Doing drills will give you an opportunity to learn in-game moves or situations but will only enhance your game to the degree you learn the disciplines of how, why, and when. These nuances are what allows progressive growth in your overall skills.

discipline of mechanics

In the lab we will focus on the details that will create consistent mechanics to get efficient results.

fundamentals

Learning the fundamentals of every facet of the game will allow you to create the building blocks to progressive development.

shooting form

There a many ways a player can shoot and still get the desired result. In the lab there are core principles to shooting that we focus on that allow the player to get to a highly efficient result over the course of a few months with consistent training.

defense

Most players play defense in a reactive manner. In the lab players are taught all the details to be proactive and fundamentals that allow you to be a great defender.

aptitude

Aptitude is a major part of lab training. Learning how to read and react to information that is in front of the player from specific training. Players will be able to see the opportunities they have before they are presented with them in real time, allowing them to be mentally ahead of the play.

The discipline of each rep allows the muscle memory to become ingrained in each player. Attention to detail in the nuances of each rep allows a player to hone his/her skills.

Humble Beginnings

Sammy was determined to living his dream of being a NBA basketball player. Over the span of his 10 year professional career he held his own against players that would go on to play for championship caliber teams such as LA Lakers and San Antonio Spurs.

However, summer of 2008 things would dramatically change. “When I got injured, I didn’t know exactly what happened to me because I didn’t get hurt on a play. I woke up one morning and felt a throbbing pain in my knee. I thought it was just from the rigors of all the practice and games during a long season. The pain would never leave and I played through season with the pain. I got an MRI and found out that I would need micro fracture surgery.”

Testimonials

De'Vante Cross

Parkland H.S./Virginia University
I started with a little to no knowledge of the game. Through Sammy’s training I learned how to play the game and the fine details that allowed me to elevate my game to a Division 1 level. Without his knowledge and training my game would have never have taken off. I am thankful and appreciate him.

I’ve had the pleasure of being trained by Sammy since the 6th grade. During that time Sammy has been not only an incredible trainer but also a great friend and role model. Since then he has taken me to heights I would not have been able to reach by myself, including a full scholarship to division 1 Lafayette.

sam Iorio

Definitely wouldn’t be who I am as far as a person and a basketball player if it wasn’t for Sammy. He has been a big brother to me since the  day we started working out together. I’ll always continue to appreciate the work he puts in with me to help me throughout the rest of my college and professional basketball career.

Sammy wants to bring the best out of you in all aspects of life. He is more than a great basketball trainer to me, he is a role model.

Deciding to train with Sammy was one of the best decisions I’ve made. His training sessions are well rounded, including ball handling, moves to the basket, shooting and more. Ever sinceI began training with Sammy, my game has improved drastically. Thanks to him, I have achieved my dream of playing at the Division 1 level.

To put it simply, I am playing college basketball because Sammy developed my skills to play at that level. He has perfected my shooting form, “from the dribble to shooting pocket up” a rhythm that I won’t forget. Sammy is not only my basketball trainer but also my life mentor; I wouldn’t be where I am without him!

keeshawn kellman

Sammy is a fun trainer who likes to get after it every workout. The thing I liked the most about Sammy’s training was his attention to detail in the drills. He emphasized the little details in each rep, those details helped me see great improvement in my skill.

Training with Sammy Barona has been one of my highlights and game defining experiences of my life. Starting with the feeling of love and brotherhood Sammy shows from first training to present day. He is relentless in the aspect of always giving me his foremost attention. He is meticulous. Spotting every minor mistake or variance helping me perfect my craft and maximizing my potential. I would like to thank him for treating me like family always into the Lab family. “Grind now, shine later!"

Zach Sabol

What the lab has meant to me is Family. I started from nothing, coming from a serious leg injury. I put on 40 lbs and everyone forgot about me besides Coach B, he was with me through the tough parts and great parts of my life. I wouldn’t be a 1000 pt. Scorer if it wasn’t for him and for that I’m forever grateful. It is some of the best training I ever done and has really carried over onto the court!

julia buchman

Julia Buchman --Parkland H.S./Mercyhurst University---  “ever since I started training in the lab, Sammy has instilled a drive in me to not just go through the motions and drills, but to get better and improve my craft everyday. He pushes me on the court and also pushes me as an individual by teaching us life lessons of hardwork and perseverance”.

claire Courter

Claire Courter---- Parkland HS/East Stroudsburg University--  Sammy Barona is the epitome of positivity, whether it be on or off the court. I couldn't have asked for a better mentor to teach mental toughness that applies to all parts of life. He has elevated my game on the court and my attitude towards life.

kass Stout

Kass Stout ---Parkland H.S./ Muhlenberg University ----“I began my journey with Sammy and the Lab when I was in 4th grade. Sammy didn’t just focus on my post moves, he focused on developing all of my skill sets as a basketball player. Sammy taught me to be the best version of myself on and off the court. I have newfound confidence that wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for him. I am blessed to have found a second family in the Lab!

kerry kinek

Kerry Kinek---- Central Catholic/Lehigh University----I first started training with Sammy when I was a freshman in high school at Central Catholic. Sammy’s workouts were intense, they pushed way out of my comfort zone and helped me develop certain skills of mine that were not refined. He pushed physically and mentally which prepared me for division 1 basketball. I am grateful to have had him on my side for encouragement and coaching throughout my career. He is a great friend of mine to this day, well beyond my basketball days. Sammy is an amazing trainer with a ton of basketball knowledge and an even better person.

Yarian Fernandez

Sammy has impacted my life a lot not only basketball wise but he has also been a mentor for me. He’s believed in me since day one and never stopped supporting me no matter what. Definitely somebody I will always look up to. He is the best trainer in the Lehigh Valley by far, he pays attention to every detail, I would not have the mentality nor the abilities I have in basketball if it wasn’t for him.

Karlee Krchnavi

I loved having Sammy as my trainer because he pushed me to be the best I could be and he’s passionate about the game and helping others. Every drill we did was done with a purpose. There was no time to slack off with Sammy and that’s why his athlete’s are so successful. Although we worked hard in the lab we always had fun!
